Increasingly, I’m enjoying two aspects of Adult Swim’s (Cartoon Network after 10:30 p.m.) programming: it’s satirical and comedic foci, and the fast pace of many of these shows. Perfect for someone with ADD! Examples of Adult Swim programs include: Family Guy, The Boondocks, previously Futurama was on, Robot Chicken, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, plus quite a bit of Anime or Japanese cartoons.
Why do I enjoy the fast paced satire? I guess I like comedy that jumps around a lot and covers a lot of ground. Why stick to one topic? Family Guy and Futurama are great examples of this, as each episode contains references to past and present pop-culture, news, history, politics and celebrities.
Robot Chicken is only 15 mins long, yet covers a wide range of topics through skits. The show is all done in claymation, which means clay or plastic figures are filmed performing actions. This is similar to the method used in Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s, “Team America”.
So in 15 mins I can watch skits that poke fun at a variety of subjects, often shows from childhood like Scooby Doo, and GI Joe, He-Man, etc. But also current events and celebrities like Britney Spears, or movies, etc.
Other fast paced satire that I began to enjoy in my early 20s include: VH1′s Best Week Ever, VH1′s Best of the ’90s, Baddest Monster Ballads, etc., The Soup, The Daily 10, The Daily Show and Colbert Report.
