This is a reminder for myself and others YOU CAN EDIT STYLES IN IE DEV TOOLBAR. I don’t find IE Dev Toolbar at all intuitive. Until recently, I did not know you could edit attributes, similar to how one uses firebug. In fact I’d given up on it being useful it all b/c in researching how to use the firebug type features, I came across many blog posts that basically deemed it useless, b/c one could not edit style attributes.
But this post is all about how you can actually do these things. Here’s how:
***UPDATE***
So I just downloaded IE8. Seems IE Dev Toolbar is completely different than IE6 & 7. IE8 version seems less easy to use, but I’ve just started understand the features in the IE7 version! So to clarify, this post is about IE Dev Toolbar in IE7.
*****
-Bring up the toolbar.
-Use top-left most button “Select by click” to find the HTML element you want to edit.
-You can add attributes or properties, such as padding, margin etc
-To the right of those properties, you can add values for those properties, such as 10px etc.
-To see what effect your new css would have, you have to press ENTER.
A bit different than firebug, but better than having nothing. In remembering how to use IE Dev Toolbar just now, I came across something called VistaCSS. Seems to be another firebug-like tool to edit css in IE, and is free.
Also came across Firebug-lite, but have never used it…
