WP-polls is a pretty cool wordpress poll plugin, written by Lester Chan. There are tons of resources on this plug-in, scattered across the webs. But I find this read-me to be the best summary: http://lesterchan.net/wordpress/readme/wp-polls.html
This plug-in also has the option of using a widget… I have not experimented with that.
PROS
Install – Like many WordPress plug-ins, this plug-in was easy to install.
Style - Also was pretty easy to style and it has a nice graphical representation of the results.
Usage / Integration – In addition, it was easy enough to add some php code to sidebar.php that would allow me to specify whether a page should have a poll and if so, which poll. I did this by having the sidebar check for a custom field named “poll”. If the field exists and no Poll ID is specified, that page gets the most recently created poll (In Settings for WP-Polls, you can configure it to display: a specific poll, most recently created poll, display all polls randomly, or no polls). If you want a specific poll on a page, you just go that page and add a custom field named “poll” and then enter the ID of the poll you want as the value. e.g. name=”poll” and value=”2″.
CONS
UI - This plug-in could have a better UI for the user creating the polls.
No Multi-question polls or Surveys – There could be some additional features added, such as support for multi-question polls or surveys. This post I think describes how to do it, but doesn’t seem that easy. http://peterpetrov.info/2009/02/10/wp-polls-slider/
Reporting - Also, I think other poll gadgets from polldaddy and surveymonkey, etc, have easy reporting and tracking of data. I haven’t reseached this thoroughly w/ WP-Polls, but if the functionality does exist out-of-the-box, it was not very apparent to me.
In any case, thanks Lester for this cool plugin! Hopefully multiple-questions, surveys, and reporting capabilities are on your feature list for future releases
